FAQ

Q:How does compression work?

Compression reduces file size by adjusting the bitrate, sample rate, and channels. We use advanced psychoacoustic models via FFmpeg to ensure that even at smaller sizes, the audio remains clear and audible. All processing happens locally in your browser.

Q:What are the presets for?

Presets are pre-configured settings for common use cases. For example, the 'WhatsApp' preset uses a low bitrate and mono channels to make files small enough for easy sharing, while 'Podcast' maintains higher quality for voice content.

Q:Will I lose audio quality?

Compression is generally 'lossy', meaning some data is removed to save space. However, our presets are tuned to minimize perceptible loss. If you need to keep 100% quality, use the 'Convert' tab to create FLAC or WAV files instead.
